“They coming! They’re coming tomorrow!” Alex Kendrill sighed as his little brother, Benjie, burst through the back door, yelling as loudly as he could. Pete, Alex’s big brown and white cat, leaped out of the chair he had been napping on and under the table. Pete disliked sudden noises, which is why he usually avoided Benjie.
Alex did not look up from his homework. “You don’t have to yell,” he said. “I’m right here.”
“They’ll be here tomorrow morning!” Benjie shouted.
“Who?” Alex asked, anticipating another one of Benjie’s tall tales…

Alex had just moved to a new neighborhood, and a few weeks after he moves in, a new boy moves into the new house next door to him. Then, lots of the houses in Alex’s neighborhood get set on fire. Alex’s little brother, Benjie thinks that their new neighbor set fire to the houses. Will Alex find a way to catch the arsonist? Read the book to find out.

The Stranger Next Door is about Alex Kendrill, a brave boy who is trying to figure out who is setting fires to the houses in his neighborhood, his cat Pete, who knows who set fire to the houses, but no one understands him, and Benjie, Alex’s little brother who likes to draw made up animals and likes to spy.

My favorite part in the story is when Pete finds out who the arsonist is, because I really like cats, and Pete is a cat who found out something that was REALLY important. I think that this book is good, because it has a little action in it, but not too much. It’s about a normal life that gets more exciting as you read on.

People who like cats and action should read this book, because in some of the chapters, you get to listen to Pete’s thoughts. People who like action should also read this book, because there is some cool action at the ending, so you’ll have to read the whole book to get to the action, and that can cause a LOT of anticipation.

When you finished this book, you can read the sequel to it, which is called Spy Cat. There is also a third book in the series, and it is called Trapped. I hope you’ll enjoy this well-written series and the other books that Peg Kehret wrote, including Danger at the Fair, Don’t Tell Anyone, I’m Not Who You Think I am, Searching for Candlestick Park, Earthquake Terror, and many more.
