Juicy Quote
“I walked all the way to the mound and marched around and around the edge and stomped the dirt flat and nobody bothered me when the catcher threw me the ball. I threw many warm-up pitches then said, ‘I’m ready for the game!’

Summary
Joey Pigza loves playing on his dad’s baseball team! His parents are divorced and this is a big problem for him. He lives with his mom but he spends his whole summer vacation with his dad because his mother needs to work. He takes his Chihuahua, Pablo with him. His dad takes him to many places. They go bungee jumping, downtown to eat breakfast, and to storybook land. He liked the places where dad takes him. He joins his dad’s baseball team. They play to the semi-finals. Once, Joey sees his dad sleeping with ten empty beer bottles on the floor. The problem is Joey’s dad keeps on drinking beer. Joey thinks his dad is taking too much alcohol. Joey’s dad also has a girlfriend named Leezy, and he wants Joey to live with them. That makes Joey not want to live with him anymore. He wants to escape from his dad. Read the book to find out if he succeeds.

Exciting Part
The exciting part of the book is when Joey strikes out almost all the opposing team’s batters. His great pitching helps their team make it to the semi-finals.

Recommendation
I think people who like to play baseball will like this book because a few chapters are about Joey on his dad’s baseball team playing against other teams.

Connection to Another Book
I read a book called Because of Winn-Dixie which is about a girl whose mom left the family. This is similar to Joey in Joey Pigza Loses Control, because his father left the family.
