“…I am Houdini.
No, no, no. Not that one-of course not. He’s dead long ago. Besides, he was a human being and I am a hamster. But let me assure you that, as my namesake was no ordinary man, I am no ordinary animal.
Well, that much is fairly obvious, isn’t it? I mean, what ordinary hamster even knows he’s a hamster? What ordinary hamster can think, reason, observe-in a word, educate himself? Show me the hamster, anywhere, with an intellect, a vocabulary like mine! You can’t…”

Young Houdini has just found a family and he is sick of being confined in cages which is boring for him. How Houdini earned his name was because he’s always escaping. One time he floods the kitchen floor and Mark, Adam and Guy’s father threaten to kill him. So, when the boys succeed in capturing Houdini, they loan him to their neighbor, Ben. He is introduced to Oggi, and is given a humiliating bite. “Wretched female” he calls her. But he soon escapes again but this time he finds Oggi and tries her again, this time
they are in love.

Houdini is a very smart, intelligent and self-educated hamster. He would do anything to have a free will but he has a heart of gold. He is tired of escaping and getting recaptured again, so is the father.

I’d highly recommend this book to animal lovers and adventure seekers. This book is sure to make you laugh and giggle about Houdini’s plots to escape.

Lynne Reid Banks has made a really good job on making the book “I Houdini”. If there’s any chance that there could be a movie of “I Houdini”, watch it now!!!
